How a Data Dispute Works

You can initiate a data dispute if you feel any of your data in your Employment Data Report is inaccurate or incomplete. The data within your report reflects what we receive from your employer, payroll provider, or third-party administrators.

We recommend that you log in to The Work Number to review your Employment Data Report.

Report

If you believe your data is inaccurate or incomplete, please fill out the data dispute form. You can dispute all information in your file including your employment dates, income information, and personal information. You can include supporting documentation, including the following:

  • W-2 or other company-issued documentation
  • Offer letter on company letterhead
  • Pay stub within the past 60 days
  • IRS Tax Transcripts

Investigate

Our analysts will investigate the disputed data. The dispute process may take up to 30 days to complete.

Update

We will work with the data provider to investigate disputed data and make necessary updates. We will notify you of the results of our reinvestigation.

Where Your Data Comes From

We receive data from employers, payroll providers, and third party administrators. We require them to report data accurately, and our processes help ensure the data we receive is accurate. However, if you believe your data is inaccurate, we encourage you to contact us so we can help you make it right.
